Connecting With Peers

Self-help groups are informal networks of individuals who share a common experience or issue. They can be led by different people; sometimes a trained volunteer who has shared experiences, and sometimes by paid professionals. Support groups are set up in many different ways and the joining process varies.

The primary focus of self-help is emotional support, practical support, and information exchange.
